ATP curated by Stewart Lee 2016

All Tomorrow’s Parties 2.0 Curated by Stewart Lee

Posted by guestwriter on 11 Dec 2015 in News | 95 Views

Roky Erickson performing the music of 13th Floor Elevators, Sun Ra Arkestra, Richard Dawson, and Thurston Moore added to All Tomorrow’s Parties 2.0 Curated by Stewart Lee

Carlton Melton, The Bellrays, Wolf People, Ex-Easter Island Head, The Wolfhounds, Dave Graney and the mistLY, The Blue Aeroplanes, Alan Wilkinson, and Richard James are also set to perform at the festival weekender

Roky Erickson is the founder and frontman of the legendary 13th Floor Elevators, a band widely regarded as being the originators of psychedelic music. Their influence on psychedelia and underground music as a whole is undeniable; so many bands who have played ATP Festival are in some way indebted to the sound and attitude of 13th Floor Elevators. Having performed with the Elevators at Levitation festival this summer for the first time in 45 years, this will be Roky’s first ever solo performance of an entire set of 13th Floor Elevators’ music.

Sun Ra Arkestra — originally founded by pianist, band leader, and improvisor Sun Ra — are characterised by a preoccupation with space travel: Sun Ra proclaimed he came from another planet. Following Sun Ra’s passing in 1993, Sun Ra Arkestra continue to perform under the direction of alto saxophonist Marshall Allen. We are thrilled to have them at All Tomorrow’s Parties 2.0 Curated by Stewart Lee as part of their 60th Anniversary Tour.

This past year Richard Dawson has become something of a sensation, garnering excellent live reviews (including a standout performance at Supersonic festival earlier this year) and 5 star record reviews across the board. Described by Rolling Stone as “one of the most unique singer-songwriter records in recent memory”, 2016 is set to be an even bigger year for Dawson and we are excited to announce him as part of April’s festival.

They join the legendary Thurston Moore, California five piece Carlton Melton, The Bellrays, Wolf People – described by Stewart Lee as “peat bog superfuzz sphagnum moss sludge”, Liverpool’s Ex-Easter Island Head, The Wolfhounds, Dave Graney (of Australian post-punk The Moodists) performing with his band the mistLY, The Blue Aeroplanes, Alan Wilkinson, and Richard James (of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci). As well as the previously announced acts such as Sleaford Mods, Boredoms, The Heads and The Necks. Current line-up in full below.

More music, DJs, films, TV and extra-curricular activities to be announced!

“Of all the ATPs I’ve attended, the 2001 weekend, when Tortoise curated it and laid American free jazz, European improv noise, alternative country rock, alienating stand-up comedy, ambient electronica, Eighties hardcore, Seventies CBGBs nostalgia, smart-arse post punk, Dutch anarcho-jazz and all manner of unexpected cross-currents on curious young people, remains a pivotal point in my musical education. It’s a great honour to be allowed to attempt something similar. Bring bucket, spade, swimwear and an open mind.”Stewart Lee
