Since her appearance on The Voice with Team Kelly and her transition to Country music, Presley has not stopped. The talented artist has particularly been making quite a bit of noise in the Country market. She has performed with Kelly Clarkson on the Voice and in Las Vegas, as well as with Tim McGraw, Cody Johnson, Michael Montgomery and many more.
Presley released her single titled Half That Strong on June 11. We met with the music artist to find out more about what has nurtured her talent and what more she has in store for her fans.
In Music: Hi Presley, thank you for e-meeting us. You are quickly establishing yourself as a Country Singer-Songwriter. So, what would you say is unique about your brand of Country music?
Presley Tennant [PT]: My music is a reflection of myself and what I mean is that my music has so many different influences ranging from Soul, Rock, Pop, Blues, and of course Country. I feel like it has a little mixture of everything which sets me apart.
1 In Music: What has shaped your music to become what it is?
PT: My influences in music come from so many different places but a few that I love are Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood. Lyrically, those who influence me are Ashley Mcbryde and Kacey Musgraves. I’ve been listening to them a lot and their writing styles have inspired me in so many different ways.
1 In Music: So what was the trigger that made you realise you were going to make music professionally?
PT: When I was 10 years old, I was in a little girl group called the 5LPs. We trained 5 days a week, performed all the time and were in the studio non-stop. During that whole process, I knew I wanted to do music as a career. I fell in love with the work ethic and getting to create something so special that will impact people.
1 In Music: What type of music do you listen to?
PT: I listen to a little bit of everything. It ranges from a lot of 70s Rock, to Soul, to Pop, to lots and lots of classic and new Country.
1 In Music: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
PT: I don’t think I could name just one. There are so many incredibly talented artists that don’t get the recognition they deserve, but it’s all just a matter of time til they able to share their talents with a bigger platform.
1 In Music: We’ve heard your powerhouse singing. How do you prepare for such confident performances?
PT: I normally do lots and lots of training in order to have a good show. I like to rehearse quite a bit to help the show flow smoothly and to strengthen my voice.
1 In Music: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
PT: I absolutely love being outdoors and active! Whether I’m out in the desert riding quads, or in the mountains snowboarding, on a boat on the lake, etc. As long as it has something to do with being outside and adventure, then I’m down for whatever!
1 In Music: So what is Success for someone like you who embraces her passion and is up for adventure?
Success to me is being happy while doing what I love. Success is growing and learning from each and every situation that life may throw at you. Success is being able to prosper out of those situations.
1 In Music: Well, that is definitely the attitude of a good music artist, grounded and evergrowing. What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
PT: I would tell people: “Try finding your sound as early as possible, but don’t jump at the first thing that pops out. It may work for you, but it also may not, so keep trying something new until it feels right and feels like you.”
1 In Music: Any upcoming projects?
PT: I have so many exciting things happening including an EP! So, make sure to stay tuned for that!
1 In Music: Where can we find more about this EP and any of your music projects?
You can find my music on all streaming platforms and you can stay updated and in touch with me through my social media which is all @PresleyTennant
