In fact, his farm plays host to fundraising benefits for the organization featuring some of the biggest names in traditional country music. 1 In Music: What is unique about you and your music?
RL: My music is unique in that it is true and real traditional country music from the heart, it is real honest music. All I have ever played for over 40 years is true traditional country music and I continue to make new genuine country music.
1 In Music: What or who shaped your music and who supports you?
RL: I grew up in a country music household. My Dad was an exceptional country singer, entertainer. all my life. I always wanted to do what my Dad did and I was bit by that country music bug at a very young age.
My wife, Donna is my biggest supporter and influencer today. She always supports what I am doing with this music I love.
1 In Music: When did you realise you were going to make music professionally?
RL: I was 15 years old, I was paid for my first gig and I haven’t stopped since then. I played as much as 6-7 nights a week and continue to stay busy year round touring, making music and hosting country music concerts at my farm.
1 In Music: What type of music do you listen to?
RL: Traditional Country Music
1 In Music: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
RL: In his day, Gary Stewart was an undervalued music artist.
1 In Music: How do you prepare for your performances?
RL: I grab my guitar and walk out on stage.
1 In Music: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
RL: I am a farmer and barn builder. My hobby is metal detecting and coin collecting.
1 In Music: Success to you is…?
RL: Having a big response from the audiences with my great band is a big success. To write my songs, record with amazing musicians and engineers and tour the country and meet all the people who love real country music is the ultimate success
1 In Music: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
RL: I wish I would have been told to surround yourself with people who believe in me and support me wholeheartedly.
