Composing4you: Interview with a musician in love with music

by | Sep 16, 2019

Wolfgang Steinwidder aja Compose4You is a unique musician whose strong emotions have tied him to music for life to bring a unique message of love to his audience. The musician started playing flute at the age of six years. Yet deep within, he always felt the call to go beyond interpreting others’ songs. He heard melodies in his head, so beautiful they often made him cry. At ten, he finally got his first guitar and took lessons. This allowes him at 14, he started songwriting (1987). In 1992, he began studying singing and piano at the conservatory. Three years later, he was recording his first songs in Vienna. Several years saw him sidetracked with private trouble but in 2001 he started writing songs again. Two years after, he founded a band and wrote ten songs for that project. In 2006, he wrote a classical mass that was never released. Steinwidder built his own house and studio and stopped again for some years before starting again in 2013 recording another unreleased song for a sports event. Since 2014, he built up his studio, and wrote several songs. In 2017, he founded Composing4you, and finally started going his way in a professional way. Until today 9 songs got released. An album and tour is planned for 2021. 1 In Music met with the composer for a tête-à-tête about his timeouts, his new 2019 single release Hollywood Rock, and his 2021 full album release and tour.

1inmusic: I sense a powerful story behind your new release, Hollywood Rock. Tell us where the inspiration came from.

Composing4you (C4Y): Hollywood Rock is a beautiful story, unique. I went to Hollywood in January this year, to compose a new song and get inspiration. But what happened is that I found wonderful friends there, the most wonderful I had ever met: young artists, highly talented, who are living under poor conditions, but with fire in their eyes. They believe in their dreams and working hard for and believing in it, in a way I had never seen before. That really changed me and my way to see my work.

One late night, we went home from a pub. We passed the stars on the Walk of Fame. And there are also some unused, empty ones. So we stood around one such star, hugging each other, and promised to get our names into a star. That was an experience I will never ever forget in my life. Never. I still tear up when I think about it.

And that’s what the song Hollywood Rock is all about. It’s not about the world of blockbuster movies and glamour.

The song paints the picture of the true heart of Hollywood:
a small family of dreamers.
And I am so crazy proud to be part of it.

It’s a song about the streets of Hollywood, you can read it in the lyrics. From time to time, a friend succeeds: one was on fashion week and another got a role in a movie. We never stop dreaming.

1inMusic: Beautiful indeed. The single is out Sep 1st and then it is the album and the tour in 2021. Where will you be performing?

C4Y: My 2021 tour will start in Los Angeles, and then concerts in the major US and European cities. I am a dreamer, so I don`t think that the tour will be a limited one. My tour will be unlimited. Once started, it will be a permanent situation. My family are my fans, and I want to with them as much as possible, celebrating and enjoying ourselves. It gonna be a beautiful time. Oh yes.

1inmusic: We’re happy you are back to share your love of music with us. I can’t imagine how it must have felt to be separated from music every time life came ringing.

C4Y: I’ve been having that [music] dream all my life. I felt really early on that the reason and sense of my being was to write and compose music without the importance of advantages and benefits from it. But of course, I am just a human being: My relationships especially often posed a real problem for me and my music. A broken heart can kill you, but that’s not even your partner’s fault…. as composer, you are already married for life. During those breaks, I almost lost everything. I built a new house and lost it again, and I of course lost audiences I had already built. But… I also have wonderful friends and fans who stayed with me always, because they feel the same, and really connected. That’s a power that always kept my had up. And I know that everything has a higher sense.

1inmusic: Would you say that makes you or your music unique?

C4Y: No, seriously… My task here is not to find out if I am unique. Whether or not I am is in the opinion of my audience. Maybe I am. Maybe not.

I am just a servant of my audience.

But… I have a strong dream. And that is to compose a piece of music that is unique. And everytime when a new song is done, I am listening out. Hoping that I am a step closer to my goals. And I hope that God gives me the energy to reach my goals. When my life is over one day, I would like to see people sitting in their home with a smile on their face…..because one of my songs has made them happier. Then my life would have a purpose.

1 In Music: What/who shaped your music and who supports you?

C4Y: Ohh… There are many people supporting and shaping me. I was lucky to get lessons in my early years already. I also met awesome musicians, who opened some doors for me. Teachers, friends, and my bank …lol. But most of all, all the beautiful people listening to my songs, and visiting my website. 1 Million last year. 🙂 THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! I love you!!

1 In Music: When did you realise you were going to make music professionally?

C4Y: When I got to 40, I was very unhappy. I was looking back at my life, and found no products of my dream… just pieces but no picture. At this moment, Composing4you was born. At that moment, a journey started that is still going on.

1 In Music: What type of music do you listen to?

C4Y: Everything beautiful, everything that touches me for any reason, or just fits with my feelings. I love music from Europe, Van Halen, Boston, Abba and Queen… but also many others. The piece must be melodical.

1 In Music: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

C4Y: ME (of course)…..what do you want me to say? I am a composer. I have to say that. 🙂 lol… kidding… I think, that we all are undervalued in our way. We never get back 100% of our input. But that is similar in all kind of activities and pretty normal. There are of course many. I think if you are doing things your own way….you get undervalued pretty fast… because you don’t fit in the usual boxes. That’s a bit sad, because those are the most precious ones. Music needs new ideas and creativity.

1 In Music: How do you prepare for your performances?

C4Y: Not at all! I have done no performances as yet. That may be one of my major differences with other artists. All or nothing. I would never do a show that does not fit my requirements. I think the audience deserves the best we can give. That’s why I don’t play half shows. I compose the whole thing… then rehearse for the best show… and THEN… STEP OUT. Be surprised in 2021… it is coming. Composing4you LIVE in Los Angeles!

1 In Music: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about? I

C4Y: Always do music. It’s my only passion. This time, no joke. My only love, my only dream. I don’t need any more. But… I love swimming in between to relax.

1 In Music: Success to you is…?

C4Y: A fire in the eyes of my listeners. A smile from them. That’s enough to make me happy. Everything else is just secondary. Money, we have… we loose… nothing worth living for. But a smile is never lost. It stays in your heart forever, and warms up the dark days. Always.

1 In Music: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?

C4Y: Lol… oh yes. They called me a dreamer, did you know that? They called me crazy. Yes, I am. And I am proud to be a dreamer. I would recommend never to follow anyone’s steps.

Find your own way.

Music is a lifelong journey. God will show you your way and help you, as long as you believe in it. And… unsuccessful songs are normal… It has nothing to do with the song quality. Whatever happens, simply believe in your dreams, never hesitate, and keep going.

The most successful people are those who simply kept going.

Not only in music. In everything. And your day will come.

1 In Music: That is a lovely way to complete this interview. Thank you for your time Composer4You! Any upcoming projects? And where do we find you music?

C4Y: Yes. I feel very on the move…on the run, right now. That’s why my upcoming songs will be faster ones. I am planning a song for happiness and enjoying life. That will come soon!!! I need some real Rock songs for my upcoming shows!! HOLLYWOOD ROCKS! You can find my music on Itunes, Amazon and Spotify.
