There is a fresh new band of the Rock scene, right from Texas, and their name is KOTA. It is always a privilege to get bands when they start because they are full of the unspoilt dreams that kindle the art. So it was nice that they gave us a few minutes to dig into what they are all about:
1inmusic: Hey Kota! Thank you for meeting with us. Let’s get talking about you and your music. What is it that you bring to the rock scene?
KOTA: Well, to tell you the truth, we offer people a place in their own heads to go and escape their every day lives and relate to our lyrics and the emotion that we put behind the music on a great level. We offer a great amount of emotions packed into just each song alone. That’s what sets us apart in today’s music scene. Today’s rock scene is like your walking outside but the scenery never changes around you. Not that its all like that, but When you step in our shoes through our music, the scenery is constantly revolving around you and we believe that is a perfect portrait of what life is. We think that’s what makes us unique.
1inMusic: What shaped your music and who supports you?
KOTA: We have a pretty big range of influences we pull from to shape who we are and the music we do create. We dont limit ourselves to just one idea or one song and create around that song. We shape our music around what is happening in our lives at that time when we sit down to write. Its about being honest to our fans and our following. And we expect our fans to be honest with us back. Of course all of our parents support us and the rest of our families, but we have connected with our music community around here (Temple, Texas) and have the support of many. Including our hometown heroes here for rock, Flyleaf. We have been in constant contact with them talking how the music industry works and just getting down to supporting each other. You can see Pat (Bass Player) for Flyleaf make a special message for us on our Facebook page!
1inmusic: When did you realise you were going to make music professionally?
KOTA: We all have been at this thing since we were young. Just from picking up our respected instruments for the first time, to playing live shows for a job at a young age as well. We all have been in previous bands before, some of us being in the same band together, well lets just say they didnt work out to plan. It was all meant to be that at all of the right times we got together and sparked the same vision and the same desire to make our mark on the industry. We will continue to do that as long as we have our hands to play, our feet to preform, and our voices to scream to the world what we have for them.
1inmusic: What type of music do you listen to?
KOTA: We love bands and just music along the lines of Alterbridge, Avenged Sevenfold, Story of The Year, The Used, Fair to Midland, Queen of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, and The Eagles.
1inmusic: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
KOTA: The most undervalued music artist to us is the one who is out every single night on the street playing for tips or the artist who never misses an open mic night because he has hopes that he might connect and impact just one person in the crowd. Thats the most undervalued music artist right now.
1inmusic: When are you performing first?
KOTA: Our debut show is on Jan. 30th 2016. So we have some planning to do for our daily rituals for backstage! But it will probably go along the lines of us making weird noises with our vocal chords and doing some yoga from Jilian Michaels. Haha
1inmusic: What ignites your (song) writing flow?
KOTA: We strongly believe the chemistry is so high in this band that we ignite each other when we are in the same room. Once one idea sparks, its over from there. We would have a song by the end of the night and have it pressed and ready to ship out.
1inmusic: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
KOTA: We all have different things we like to do, some of us like some competition and play some sports, we have two producers in the band, while it still being music it’s a different aspect of music. And we all just like to sit down, watch some football, drink some beer, and play some cards against humanity every now and then. It brings you back down from a hectic life a musician has to face at times.
1inmusic: Success to you is…
KOTA: … giving back the feeling to fans that we have been blessed with from many artists throughout the years. If we have been sad we listen to “this” artist, if we are happy “this” artist gets us through all the good times. Success to us is connecting with fans and igniting the fire inside them.
1inmusic: Any advice for aspiring musicians?
KOTA: If you are going to take on music for a living, its either all or nothing. You have to want it so bad that there isnt the option of going back to your desk job or your comfortable life. Its either you do it, or you dont. There is no in between.
1inmusic: Any upcoming projects?
KOTA: We are about to release our debut single “Northern Star” January 16th via Youtube, Facebook, and Bandcamp. We are also shooting a music video for that single very soon as well. Along with finishing up an EP thats going to be released later this year.
1inmusic: Where can we find more about you and your music?
A: You can keep up with us on our Facebook! Follow our tour dates, merch, and upcoming releases!
1inmusic: Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. We thought we’d live your audience with the Youtube video your debut single Northern Star.
