The Sound of Javier Rodriguez
My life without music is somehow incomplete…
1 In Music: What is unique about you and your music?
Javier Rodriguez [JR]: Undoubtedly, the style and objective are to create immersive and emotional soundscapes. My compositions are characterized by the repetition of patterns to create a sense of calm and serenity. It’s melodic music but it also uses textures and layers of sounds to create a unique experience for each listener. I also incorporate elements of classical music, jazz, and electronic music to create a distinctive and recognizable style. Overall, my music is introspective and evocative, and is often used in film soundtracks and television commercials.
1 In Music: What or who shaped your music and who supports you?
Javier Rodriguez [JR]: My music is deeply rooted in my personal experiences and surroundings. I often draw inspiration from nature, landscapes, and the concept of time. This connection with the natural world is often reflected in my compositions, which often evoke a sense of serenity. Also my music is influenced by various genres and styles, including classical, minimalist, and film music. Composers such as Igor Stravinsky, John Cage, Arvo Pärt, and Philip Glass have played a significant role in shaping my compositional approach and the atmospheric, introspective qualities of my music.
1 In Music: We can definitely feel everything you say in the sound of your music, thank you.

Who or what else inspires Javier Rodriguez?
1 In Music: What type of music do you listen to?
Everything: Classical, Neo-Classical, Electronic, Jazz, but also Metal, Rock…
1 In Music: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
It’s a question of personal opinion, but for me, the most undervalued music artist is Dorothy Ashby. Their talent, creativity, and impact on the music industry often go unnoticed or underappreciated. Their music contains a unique blend of genres, thought-provoking lyrics, and exceptional vocal abilities that deserve more recognition.

1 In Music: How do you prepare for your performances?
Javier Rodriguez [JR]: I think I have a meticulous preparation process for each performance. Some key aspects include:
- Score Preparation
- Rehearsing with Musicians
- Technical Preparation: Paying close attention to technical aspects, such as sound production and amplification.
- Revisiting the Music: the most important part, just after performing a piece multiple times, I revisit and re-evaluate the compositions.
1 In Music: What do you do beside music and that you are passionate about?
JR: Travelling, socialising, cycling and playing chess.
1 In Music: Success to you is…?
JR: Success is Audience Connection and Emotional Impact in the listeners: music is, over all, a universal language.
Also, Success is Personal Growth and Exploration: for me, it means freedom to explore different musical territories, challenging myself by experimenting with new genres, styles, or techniques, pushing my own artistic boundaries and expanding my musical horizons.
1 In Music: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
Play what you mean. Mean what you play.
