Hefe Heetroc’s musical prowess was a fait accompli long before he picked up a microphone. With the resurgence of 90’s influenced rap, his single Shr00mz is obviously influenced by the slew of underground Hip-Hop heads that have preceded it in its creation: Sterile Cloudrap beats soaked in a grungy trip hop sonic stew; all while dirty synths belch their menacing rasp. It’s very hard to boil down, or rather pin down, a definitive style or genre that Shr00mz as a single is. What we do have here is an L.A.-disenfranchised stoner, a mutant rap gumbo of different styles, fused together.
Maybe Hefe is ushering in a new style of music for the slackers and malcontents of 2016 and beyond. Many of my mates in the UK feel curiously drawn to these disillusioned, freshly minted 20XX electro-online snapchat and vine stars. As long as life’s slings and arrows leaves our young adults
feeling like they’re in a perpetual state of ennui, there will always be room for the likes of Hefe Heetroc, his underground rap ilk, and his dystopian 420 jams. Let us delve a bit deeper into his start.
As the Earth shook in Tangshan, China, the world stood reeling in fear of the aftershocks, unaware of the burgeoning creativity of its newest addition to the ever growing population in upstate New York. Hidden behind the eyes of this future artist, something very different was shaking waiting for him to come of age.
Nearly twenty years passed before five simple strings wrenched from his insides. With the pen as his guide and his voice as a vessel, a natural melody consumed him. The beats became a living thing and the man just a tool of expression, but this son of Saturn waged war on the limits of individualism.
Hefe Heetroc aka Wez Nilez accepted the immeasurable challenge of melding sound with sentiment and drilled furiously to satisfy the siren call of freedom from emotional discord. Unhampered with bias, he forged a relationship with music on his own terms. Every digital tool was self-taught and the resulting beats were an embodiment of his experiences and struggles.
Truly speaking to others in a universal language, Hefe touches the rawness of their spirit. These pursuits continue to drive him forward, inoculating us against apathy and indifference, our wax wings hardened with determination.
No doubt learning from Icarus, Hefe never dares to travel too close to the sun. Choosing to perfect his trade before releasing it to us, he prepared several unreleased tracks whilst he waited for the choicest combinations of sound and soul.
Finally, as if riding aboard the fiery coattails of Zimbabwe’s great meteor, Hefe released his uplifting beats and rhythm to the public, appropriately entitled The Art of Life. With the release of this title, the floodgates blew open and the artist went on sharing his craft with us through The Inoculation 1 (2013), The Inoculation 2 (2014) and The Inoculation 3.0 (2015) & Inoculare: Intersecting Dimensions (2016).
Hefe continues to challenge the boundaries of our perceptions with his newest release, Inoculare: Intersecting Dimensions. Offering up a haunting coalescence of content and catchiness. Find his works and words on the official site of Hefe Heetroc.
