1inmusic: What is unique about you and your music?
Maquet Robinson: What makes us unique is the time and effort we put into our music to deliver a quality song.
1inMusic: What shaped your music and who supports you?
MR: I think our music is shaped by a host of things such as driving Beats, melodic melodies and excellent vocal Arrangements.
1inmusic: When did you realise you were going to make music professionally?
MR: I, Maquet Robinson, President of Production at GIG Music Group realized I was going to make music at an early age, when I joined my group called “Social Generation”. We later recorded a phenomenal LP with MC Hammer entitled Please hammer don’t hurt em, which sold a record-breaking 27 million records both domestically and internationally.
1inmusic: What type of music do you listen to?
MR: We, at GIG, listen to all genres of music, there’s no particular one. Music moves through our souls.
1inmusic: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
MR: There are so many artists out there I think that are undervalued or don’t have proper management or knowledge of the business, that they can become more valuable to this industry. No names.
1inmusic: How do you prepare for your performances?
MR: There was no particular ritual on preparing for performances. Just always practice and be ready.
1inmusic: What ignites your (song) writing flow?
MR: A peaceful environment really gets my creativity going.
1inmusic: What do you do when you donít do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
MR: I’m always involved in music in some kind of way. It’s my passion and it’s my favorite thing to do.
1inmusic: Success to you is…
MR: Success to us is not always about having that hit record or that hit video. To us, it’s about working hard, following through, and being prepared. If you do these things you have succeeded but a hit record wouldn’t be bad. It’s the Icing on the cake.
1inmusic: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
MR: When I started, I wish I was told to know my business as an artist and as a business. I would say to any up-and-coming artist to work hard, dare to be a little different and know your craft both inside and out.
