Check out upcoming, Ireland-based singer/songwriter music artist Mel Maryns. This musical autodidact has been at it since she was 13. Non-content on teaching herself the piano and guitar, she frequently busks on the streets of Ireland. She recently released 3 singles and I’m planning on releasing a new single every month till the end of the year. Let’s meet up the music artist who wants to “inspire people with her music” and her “one single released a month” self-challenge.
1 In Music: Hey Mel, what is unique about your music that will inspire your audience?
Mel Maryns (MM): I think that what makes my music unique is that it’s genuinely just me, just who I am. My music is how I want it to sound like and I think being who you are makes it special. I would describe my music as……Mel Maryns. It has that “pop” rock style. I love to rock out. My music is like my brain, my feelings, so everything that I feel I put it into lyrics and melodies. I love to write my own music.
1 In Music: What/who shaped your music and who supports you?
[MM]: Everyone around me supports my music, my family, my friends, my parents, my teachers, I’m very lucky to have them in my life.
1 In Music: When did you realise you were going to make music professionally?
[MM]: I’ve been singing since I was a little kid. My dad used to play guitar and there was always music in the house. We used to always sing together and I always had this really good feeling when I used to sing as if that was my destiny. Knowing that, I started writing my own original songs, I learned how to play the piano by teaching myself and watching videos on YouTube and after a while I started singing on the streets and I just knew that singing was my passion and it felt like it was meant to be. So I started producing my own songs and releasing them on all music platforms.
1 In Music: What type of music do you listen to?
[MM]: I listen to every type of music. I’m very eclectic. But I personally LOVE listening to rock music.
1 In Music: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
[MM]: I think in my opinion there are a lot of unknown artists in the music business that doesn’t have the recognition they deserve.
1 In Music: How do you prepare for your performances?
[MM]: I practice every day. In the mornings I practice piano, in the evenings I practice my singing. I take voice lessons. I warm up my voice every time before I perform. I think it’s very important to warm up before singing.
1 In Music: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
[MM]: Well, I really like to skateboard and watch series on my free time. One thing that I’m very passionate about is composing songs. I write everything that I feel. I love the idea of putting your feelings into words and melodies.
1 In Music: Success to you is…?
[MM]: I think success for me is being recognized for your work. It’s that moment when you realized everything that you’ve worked for paid off. Such as, receiving messages from your fans, people streaming your music and sharing to others. I think these are very important things to success.
1 In Music: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
[MM]: I wish someone told me that it was only temporary, all the hard working and rejections, was going to be worth in the future. So, never give up, because if you dream you can do it. It’s not about how fast you get there, it’s about what’s waiting for you.
1 In Music: Any upcoming projects?
[MM]: I’m planning on releasing a new single every month till the end of the year. It’s a challenge, but I know I’ll make it! I can’t wait for everyone to hear my music. And hopefully my next move will be making an album.
1 In Music: Where do we find you music / music project?
[MM]: You can find my on all social medias including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @melmaryns and on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/artist/58AEHTA0KiEEpoZAlV7pUq
