Mouse On The Keys Release 4-track EP With Lite

Japan’s genre-defying Mouse On The Keys release new EP

Mouse On The Keys release new EP – 1 In Music reviews first single

Japan’s genre-defying Mouse On The Keys release 4-track EP with fellow band Lite. The first single is Four Preludes,Op.5 : No 3 In B Minor, a beautifully minimalist spell. It starts like a certain favourite Chopin’s prelude, then the minimal phrased piano takes you even more into contemplative wonder, that a jazzy contre-temps and dynamic percussions come to ascertain and enrich. The composition allows the listener to wallow in an emotional transe without ever falling completely into its hole thanks to the ‘harmoniously’ disruptive drumming. The band offer a preview via Soundcloud:

Mouse On Keys: The Band

Japan's genre-defying Mouse On The KeysFormed in 2006, with elements of jazz, funk, post‐rock and electronic music, Mouse on the Keys fits into a genre of their own. The trio consists of two former members of the influential Japanese underground band Nine Days Wonder, Akira Kawasaki and Atsushi Kiyota. They teamed up with Daisuke Niitome, who has played drums as well as composed music for countless jazz‐funk and hip hop bands. Their unique sound, comprising two pianos, two keyboards and drums, continue to stand at the forefront of the Japanese music scene.

Mouse on the Keys split with fellow Tokyo band LITE is out September 30th via Topshelf Records. This is the first time both Japanese bands have collaborated on a release. Each band lends one original and a cover of one another’s songs. You can Pre-order the split on 12″ vinyl (Black, Grey, Clear & Grey Half and Half) and digitally by following this link.

Both bands will make their maiden trip to the US for a run of dates along theWest Coast in November. All confirmed tour dates below.
