The sound of Scotty Hollywood

1 In Music: What makes your sound and you, as a music artist, unique?Scotty Hollywood

Scotty Hollywood [SH]: I play most of the instruments on my records, so the multi-instrumentalist aspect of my music may be something that sets me apart from other artists.  I love melody and rhythm, so wrapping a beautiful melody around a strong rhythmic pocket is something I’m always trying to achieve.

1 In Music: What or who shaped your music and who supports you?

I’m still not certain the everyday music fan truly comprehends and appreciates the level of genius that lingers within his [Brian Wilson’s] records.

SH: I have many professional influences from Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson to Elvis.  My early years as a jazz drummer refined my instincts and gave me some strong musicality.  I had a Middle School band director that had huge impact on me as a musician.  His name was Andy Ruzzini, a professional sax player who also taught us music.  He had incredible chops, instincts, a sense of rhythm and a passion which was truly contagious.  Mr. Ruzzini also adapted many modern-day hits into music charts that our middle school band could tackle.  He really taught me a lot about music and what it takes to be a professional player.  He also had very cool hair which is extremely important for any musician!

1 In Music: Nice one! So, when exactly did you realize, you were going to make music professionally?

SH: On summer family vacations to Cape May, New Jersey I became entranced standing outside of beach bars and listening to the show bands perform.  These were pivotal moments that definitely confirmed my passion for music and started the dream.

Scotty Hollywood’s inspirations and influences

1 In music: What type of music do you listen to?

Scotty Hollywood [SH]: My musical taste is all over the place.  I listen to a lot of jazz, love the Beach Boys, enjoy the melodic simplicity of 70s tunes but also love the progressive sound of bands like Yes, Rush and Genesis.  I can appreciate just about anything.

1 In music: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

SH: I’m a major Brian Wilson and Beach Boys fan. Brian is admired within the industry, but I’m still not certain the everyday music fan truly comprehends and appreciates the level of genius that lingers within his records.  I feel it should be mandatory for everyone to have Pet Sounds within their record collections.

1 In music: How do you prepare for your performances?

SH: As a singer, I try to run scales prior to a performance to ensure my voice is loose and can endure a couple of sets.  I have a number of vocal exercises that really help loosen me up before showtime.

A dose of inspiration from Scotty Hollywood

1 In music: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?Scotty Hollywood

Scotty Hollywood [SH]: I’ve worked as a signed, professional actor here in Denver.  I’ve had the opportunity to appear in a Ridley Scott production as well as numerous independent films and commercials.  I’ve also been able to meet a lot of directors and actresses who have appeared in my music videos as well, so it’s been a nice auxiliary creative outlet and win-win for me.

1 In music: Success to you is…?

When I perform and see someone singing my lyrics, that feels like success to me.  When you have struck an emotional chord within a listener, that’s a neat feeling!

1 In Music: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?

SH: I had to learn that regardless of the size of your audience,

you need to muster up the energy to deliver the same level of performance, whether it’s for 5 people or 5000 people.

That would be some advice to lend.

What is next for Scotty Hollywood?

1 In Music: Any upcoming projects?

Scotty Hollywood [SH]: My new album, Wondervu, is set for release on September 25th, 2023.  It will be distributed internationally and available on streaming platforms worldwide.

1 In Music: Thank you, Scotty! Where do we find your music?

SH: You can check out my official website at for updates on my music.  I have a YouTube channel where I have multiple music videos and projects posted.  Also, iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer etc.
