T-Rexz born Troy Mitchell ascended from the uncharted hip-hop territory of Orlando, Florida, as one of the vetted stars in the local scene. He quickly gained a reputation for his intense rhyme delivery , versatile lyrical content and urban art paintings. His music landed him a deal with the independent label Conscious Mind Records. 1inMusic recently met him to find out more including his current work on a mixtape titled Prehistoric with the production company Dirty Bakerz and featuring local American Idol runner up J. None. Humble on the collaboration, he still reveals to us a secret: T-Rexz reaches within to move forward.
1inmusic: Hi T-Rexz and thank you for joining us. Talk to us a little about you and your music?
T-Rexz: My life basically shapes my music. I have never been one to color inside the lines so I’ve always been true to myself and my music is just like artwork but to the ears.
It’s rare to find people to continue the journey with you from beginning to end. As long as you stay true to yourself and
T-Rexz: I’ve always been engulfed in music its been with me since birth, so I cant ever see letting it go. To be able to make money from it would be great but when you love something you do it regardless. 4. I listen to life’s soundtrack and just be in tune enough to listen to what my experiences are telling me.
1inmusic: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
T-Rexz: The most undervalued artist in my opinion is AZ. He came up in a legends shadow, which was Nas and sometimes its kind of hard to get pass that unless you push really hard. Lyric wise I think he is incredible.
1inmusic: How do you prepare for your performances?
T-Rexz: I prepare for my performances like anything else. First you gotta have a vision and then you gotta execute that vision, which may take practice and creative thinking.
1inmusic: What gets you writing songs?
T-Rexz: I usually just let the beat talk to me. The beat is already telling a story and lyrics are basically the icing on the cake but i put more into what I’m saying.
1inmusic: We hear you are not just a music creative… will you tell us a little more?
T-Rexz: When I’m not doing music I like to paint. I also like to travel and see new things in the world and feel new energy. I like to learn new things to help expand my mind.
1inmusic: Success to you is…
T-Rexz: …Success is to you whatever you deem it to be, to me I have so many visions i haven’t quite pin pointed it yet but as long as i can get to a place of peace that will be close enough.
1inmusic: What do you wish you have been told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
No matter what goes on outside always BELIEVE IN YOURSELF INSIDE!
1inmusic: What’s next for T-Rexz?
1inmusic: T-Rexz, many thanks for your time and good luck with your music!
