For this interview, 1 In Music meets Awoodbeatz, an up and coming hip hop/pop artist and actor born and raised in Detroit. The music artist’s goal is to share his own blend of creative and positive vibes with the world, writing music that he feels everyone can relate to.

1InMusic: Thank you for joining us Awoodbeatz for a few questions. Please introduce us first to what is unique about you and your music.

Awoodbeatz (A): What’s unique about me and my music is that it appeals to the young and the old…everybody vibes out to my music. whether you are 10 or 70. My music is not limited to just 1 group or generation…What’s unique about me is that I truly believe that I’m the chosen one and I conduct myself as such. You have to have that confidence and believe in yourself and everything you do. Too many people turn to others for validation, not me. I conduct myself as the greatest, no matter what the next person thinks, from the corny jokes I say, to the motivational speeches I give, I leave a lasting impression on everybody I meet.

1InMusic: What shaped your music?

A: What shaped my music is positive vibes. Nowadays, all you hear is negative vibes in today’s music. I grew up in the hood and that was enough negative vibes for me. I’m on my positive vibe now. When you listen to my music, you gonna want to have a good time and vibe out. I make music for the people that want to dance. I get support from all people, different races, different ages…my music has no barriers.

1InMusic: When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

A: I have been producing beats and writing songs since 2010 but it wasn’t until 2014 that I decided to take this pop music thing seriously as an artist. I truly felt that it was my calling to come from behind the scenes and be an artist. So i released my 1st single 12-13-2014 called “All I got”, and since then, I have been carefully releasing quality music that the fans love and appreciate.

1InMusic: What type of music do you listen to?

A: I listen to all kind of music….it all depends on how I’m feeling at the time. When I’m in the gym, I usually listen to 1980’s stadium music. It gets me pumped. Then if I’m just riding around the city, I’m listening to pop and hip hop.Ii honestly just enjoy listening to all types of music.

1InMusic: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

A: Honestly, I think I am!!!! haha, but in due time the world will see I’m the chosen one.

1InMusic: How do you prepare for your performances?

A: I prepare by rehearsing everyday before the show. Performing is important to me because you wanna give the fans something to remember.I  don’t care if there is one person there, I’m gonna to give that person the show of their life. Right before I perform, I say a prayer and just go out there and give it all I’ve  got….

1InMusic: What ignites your (song) writing flow?

A: I produce my own beats so when I’m in the studio and I start making a beat, I begin to come up with song ideas as I go along. Or if I’m somewhere and I think of a nice melody, I record it in my phone and when I get to the studio, I build a beat around the melody and then build the whole song. When I’m writing my main focus is the hook. That’s the bread and butter in my opinion. I go with the dance vibes. I ask myself “do I hear this being in the club and on the radio or playing in the background at a sporting event?” I want to write songs that will last forever. I want to write songs that everybody can dance and feel. Some people call my music mainstream but I call it greatness.

1InMusic: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

A: I’m usually in the gym working out or playing golf or somewhere motivating people. I’m very passionate about motivating people. If my words can help at least one person get through the day in a positive way, then I’m happy. Outside the studio, I’m usually networking and making things happen in a great way.

1InMusic: Success to you is…

A: If you asked me this a few years ago when I was broke, I would have said “having money” but I was wrong. Success to me means you are happy and you reached your own personal goals no matter how small or big they are.

1InMusic: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?

A: Learn more about the business side of the music industry…spend money on a good lawyer and remember quality is key.

1InMusic: Thank you for answering all our questions. Do you have any upcoming projects you want to share and also can you let us know where we can find your music?

A: I’m currently working on new music and filming a few small acting roles…this year will be a big one and it’s just the beginning. You can find me on Twitter (@awoodbeatz), Facebook, Soundcloud, Instagram, iTunes and Android (search awoodbeatz) and my website www.awoodbeatz.com.
