Hailing from Buffalo, NY, Jreasn is a driven, passionate and charismatic artist with a unique approach to his blend of Hip-Hop. His music is all about connecting with listeners through powerful hooks, trap-infused beats and a thought-provoking sense of lyrical flow, not unlike influential performers including as Nas, J Dilla or Shad. 1 In Music met with the music artist.
1inmusic: Jreasn, thank you for doing this interview. We’re going to delve right down to it. You particularly value lyricism in your flow. Why and what else would you say shapes your music and makes it unique?
Jreasn (JR): …In today’s music, we see lyricism dying. I still believe in making words flow that have structure and substance. What shapes my music and makes it unique is a mixture of failures, successes, and stories from my life in general I believe. Sharing something that can help someone or can relate to them is what music is all about.
1inmusic: When did you realise you were going to make music professionally?
JR: I have been making music since 2003 but i started professionally in 2010.
1inmusic: What type of music do you listen to?
JR: Rap, Hip Hop, Blues, Pop, Indie, Alternative – I’m kind of all over the place with music. I currently have Tupac and Coldplay in one playlist lol.
1inmusic: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
JR: I would like to think Logic: he’s in a league of his own right now and eventually people will start to notice.
1inmusic: How do you prepare for your performances?
JR: I remember why I love music and that creates the energy and adrenaline.
1inmusic: What ignites your (song) writing flow?
JR: It depends on the beat, whether its a crazy hype beat or something slow, I’m ready.
1inmusic: What do you do when you don’t do music and that you are passionate about?
JR: I’m also into marketing and technology. I’m heavy into gaming as well PS4 and PC.
1inmusic: Success to you is…
JR: … Starting from the ground up, taking nothing and turning it into something.
1inmusic: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
JR: Take recording seriously, find a real/seasoned engineer, if you have a good sound and show promise, it will elevate your music.
1inmusic: Any upcoming projects?
JR: I’m dropping “The Love Hate” April 19th, 2016.
1inmusic: Thank you for answering our questions! Tell us: where do we find your music?
JR: If you search Jreasn on iTunes and Google Play, you will find last years release titles “The Reasoning”. You can also hear me on:
