Khoen is an artist and songwriter currenty located in Sweden. He has been writing music for other artists since he was 13 years old. This year, he will be releasing his first solo project in 5 years called ” Call Me Kenji “. First out is his single  ” Shake ” that drops at the end of September. 1 In Music had a few questions for the artist.

1inmusic: What is unique about you and your music?
Khoen: Both me and my music are a mix of chaos and random outcomes, you can never box me in based on genre or sound, I will not give the world a chance to label me cause I will always keep changin that label.

1inMusic: What shaped your music and who supports you?
Khoen: Manny years of writing music in different genres have given me the tools to create my own unique sound. My friends are my fans and my fans are my friends and they support me in everything I do.

1inmusic: When did you realise you were going to make music professionally?
Khoen: … around the same time I realised that I would never be able to work with something I don’t enjoy doing. I was probably 16 years old.

1inmusic: What type of music do you listen to?
Khoen: I listen to everything. As a songwriter, I have learned to appreciate every genre for what it brings to the table. I have yet to find a genre that does not contain a song I like.

1inmusic: It’s been almost 5 years since you released anything as a solo artist, How does it feel?
Khoen: It feels great to be back on stage. I’ve been working behind the keys for too long.

1inmusic: How do you prepare for your performances?
Khoen: Listening to Hans Zimmer & Yellow Claw while sipping on some mango juice.

1inmusic: What ignites your (song) writing flow?
Khoen: Some days it’s a friend’s love story and sometimes it’s a butterfly landing on my arm. Basically, anything I see or hear can inspire me and spark my fire to write.

1inmusic: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
Khoen: The few hours a day I don’t spend on music mostly goes to working on designing clothes, writing comics or playing videogames. I’m very passionate when it comes to everything creative so even if I do something that’s not creative like paying bills, I’ll probably end up writing lyrics on the bills instead of paying them.

1inmusic: Lol… So success, to you, is…
Khoen: … being able to do what I want, when I want and were I want without having to worry about money or other people’s opinions.

1inmusic: Being that you are currently located in Sweden, do you think that the Swedish music industry will greet your music with open arms or shut you out?
Khoen:  I don’t know and I don’t really care either, they will be forced to deal with me sooner or later so it’s up to them how they wanna handle it.

1inmusic: Any upcoming projects?
Khoen: Following the release of my single, I will be dropping my EP called ” Call Me Kenji “. I also have some secret projects in the making that will drop both before and after the EP, some music related and some not.

1inmusic: Where do we find out more about music projects?
Khoen: My Single ” Shake ” will be available on all streaming platforms at the end of September.

1inMusic: Thank you for this interview. Would you leave us with one sentence that describes or sums you up as an artist?
Khoen: A creative mind on steroids.
