Money Carsin has been a man on the move for many years. A Division One basketball scholarship couldn’t keep this man out of the studio. After college, Money was on his grind harder than ever, appearing on mix tapes throughout the Tri-State. The artist has appeared on mix tapes hosted by Dame Grease, DJ Delz, DJ Wes Will, Dj Diamond Kutz, Dj Alamo, DJ Superstar Jay and many more. He has now accepted an interview with 1 In Music.
1inmusic: What is unique about you and your music?
Money Carsin: I gotta start the interview off by saying RIP to the boss man Marco Golding who just passed recently. He was CEO of the management company I’m signed to (IE Management). Now back to the question, there’s only 1 me. I’m the only one living my life and my music stems from my life, which makes it unique.
Listening to my music makes a person feel like they know me or at least know enough about me to want to know more. Its unique because like i said before there’s only 1 me. I don’t have my hair dyed or wear crazy things to try and be unique, I’m just myself and that works for me
1inMusic: What shaped your music and who supports you?
MC: The everyday ups and downs shape my music. What I’m about, what my homies are about, and what’s going on in my state and around me. Honestly, I get great support from my Black Tuna Gang family, my management and actually my family too believe it or not lol.
1inmusic: When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
MC: Music was just a hobby, I hadn’t even done a real recording, I just knew I could rap. Around 2002 / 2003, I got on my first major mixtape with Just Dj and Dj Lust and the response to the freestyle I was on was crazy. That’s when I knew we had to lock in and figure out how to get this music thing done.
1inmusic: What type of music do you listen to?
MC: I listen to Hip Hop, a little RnB once in a blue moon and some pop music when my daughter takes control of the radio in my car Lol.
1inmusic: Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
MC: I think it would have to be AZ. Every song he does you can clearly see everything he is talking about and he manages to do that, keep it real, drop some gems and entertain all at once.
1inmusic: How do you prepare for your performances?
MC: No special tricks or rituals, LOL we just rehearse. I get with JBiggs and our Dj B. Whyte and go over the set until we can do it in our sleep.
1inmusic: What ignites your (song) writing flow?
MC: 9 times out of 10 it all depends on how the beat moves me or what vibes it puts me in mentally. Once I see what vibe it puts me in I’m good to go. Catching the right vibe is key for me, writing the actual lyrics is the easy part.
1inmusic: What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
MC: I manage a group home for at-risk teenagers. A lot of people gave up on these kids years ago but everybody complains that these kids don’t know anything and are part of a terrible generation. But honestly no one has showed these kids anything better. So that’s what we (BTG) do when we’re not making music. We work with the future for the future.
1inmusic: Success to you is?
MC: Success is just being comfortable being yourself and happy living your life. Now for me, success is being able to provide for my family and circle through music. Nothing more, nothing less. I don’t need 4 cars or 9 bathrooms… Lol.
1inmusic: What do you wish you were told when you started out and that you think would help anyone who starts out?
MC: I wish someone told me NOOOO don’t do it, stay in school and be a doctor LOL. For up and comers, I would say have a back-up plan and live your life while you grind. Get a job, have a family if that’s in your cards. You can still peruse and be successful with music while doing that. Too many people put the world on pause for their music, look up and are miserable and feel stagnant. You have to sacrifice and put 100% effort in but you have to have balance.
1inmusic: Any upcoming projects?
MC: I have a new single and video dropping this quarter called “Big Bro” prod by NY Bangaz. It will be available on all online outlets, iTunes, GooglePlay and all that.
1inmusic: Thank you for sharing your passion with us. Last thing, where do we find more about your music?
MC: I’m everywhere online as @MoneyCarsin. I have the “Next Nobody” hosted by Power 105Fm’s own EmEz out now on datpiff and audio mack. I have the “TunaMan” tape hosted by Dj B. Original out now on datpiff and Coast to Coast mixtapes. All original work and both free projects. I also have the single “Good Man” Ft. Fred The Godson on iTunes and Google Play right now as well as “Touchin Mo Cream” Ft. Redman and LDJ.
